The Can-Am Ryker secondary clutch uses roll pins to lock the roller bolts in place. The roller bolts hold the clutch rollers, which ride along the helix as the secondary clutch moves through its operating range.

 

Over time, the factory OEM roll pins are exposed to repeated heat cycles. As they continue getting hot and cold during operation, the factory pins can weaken and may eventually loosen or fail.

 

If a roll pin loosens or lets go, the roller bolt can potentially back out. This can allow the roller and related hardware to move inside the secondary clutch and may lead to serious clutch damage.

 

These upgraded heavy-duty stainless steel roll pins are designed to handle more heat, stress, and abuse than the factory-style pins.

 

They are an excellent replacement for worn OEM roll pins and are especially recommended for high-horsepower and modified Can-Am Ryker applications.

WHY UPGRADE THE FACTORY ROLL PINS?

 

The factory roll pins are not intended to be reused indefinitely. Repeated heat cycles and the constant movement of the secondary clutch can cause the pins to become weak over time.

 

A weakened roll pin may no longer hold the roller bolt securely. If the roller bolt backs out, the roller can become loose or move out of position inside the clutch.

 

These heavy-duty stainless steel roll pins provide a stronger and more reliable replacement option. They are not only a great replacement for worn factory pins, but also the best choice for modified and high-output Can-Am Ryker applications.

HOW THE SECONDARY CLUTCH ROLL PINS WORK

 

The Can-Am Ryker secondary clutch contains multiple moving parts. The helix moves up and down on the rollers while the high-tension spring applies pressure to the two clutch sheaves.

 

As engine RPM increases and decreases, the rollers move along the helix. The rollers can become brittle and begin to wear or fall apart over time.

 

The rollers are installed on the roller bolts. Each roller bolt is secured with a domed ribbed lock washer. Once the roller bolts are tightened and the holes are properly aligned through the roller bolts and the clutch sheave, the roll pins are installed through the holes.

 

The roll pins lock the roller bolts in place and help prevent them from backing out during operation.

IMPORTANT ROLL PIN REPLACEMENT INFORMATION

 

The roll pins should be inspected whenever the secondary clutch is serviced.

 

Roll pins are intended to be replaced when replacing the rollers. They are not designed to be reused repeatedly.

 

Whenever you install new rollers, inspect the roller bolts, domed ribbed lock washers, and roll pins. Replace any worn, damaged, weakened, or previously used roll pins.

Whenever servicing the Can-Am Ryker secondary clutch, always inspect the entire clutch assembly and all related components.

 

The secondary clutch contains multiple moving parts, including the helix, rollers, roller bolts, lock washers, roll pins, clutch sheaves, and high-tension spring.

 

These components are exposed to heat, pressure, movement, and repeated operating cycles. They should be inspected during regular CVT maintenance and replaced if they are worn, damaged, weakened, or no longer serviceable.

 

Always replace the roll pins when replacing the secondary clutch rollers. Do not reuse old roll pins.

 

Use the proper roll pin punch tool when removing and installing the roll pins.
