The Arai Helmets Contour-X features an innovative 3D Arai logo duct that is only 3.5 mm deep, designed to enhance airflow at low speeds and in an upright riding position. This duct efficiently feeds two central 10 mm intake ports and can be easily opened or closed with gloves using a short-stroke lever located at the top. When the lever is not visible and the logo is in its normal position, the duct remains open, allowing for customizable airflow to suit various riding conditions. The logo duct is engineered to break away upon impact, maintaining safety without compromising durability.
The helmet is equipped with a sophisticated aerodynamic rear spoiler that functions as an exhaust vent, inspired by the DF-X2 of the Corsair-X but redesigned for touring comfort. This spoiler is positioned slightly forward on the shell and features three ports that efficiently draw air, helping to smooth airflow over and from the helmet sides. This design reduces buffeting and turbulence at highway speeds, resulting in decreased rider fatigue and enhanced stability during long rides. Manufactured as lightweight as possible, the rear spoiler is engineered to break away under impact, ensuring safety is not compromised.
The Contour-X includes a versatile 3-position sliding chin vent with a large intake volume and a replaceable filter, controlled via a thicker, glove-friendly mechanism. This allows for optimal airflow control in different weather conditions, whether summer or winter. The helmet’s shell design incorporates a stylish, organic shape with Peripherally Belted Complex Laminate Construction (PB-cLc2) for lightweight strength and durability, along with integrated side ducts. An extra layer of super fiber belting in key areas enhances shell rigidity while maintaining a sleek profile suitable for intercom system installation.
Featuring the Variable Axis System (VAS), the visor mounting position is lowered by approximately 24 mm across the temple areas, improving aerodynamics and reducing the likelihood of energy-glancing impacts. The shell flares 5 mm around the face opening to facilitate easier donning and removal, particularly for new users. An internal stitched opening in the neck roll provides a clean, discreet space for wiring and speaker installation, ensuring a tidy and professional finish.
